Utilitarianism

2026

  • Lionel Moerch as Film Director

These documentaries for Terre des hommes explore the realities of maternal health and gender-based violence in Guinea through a human-centered approach that prioritizes emotion and authenticity over traditional reporting.

Our approach

Faced with these overwhelming issues, our priority was to remain in our rightful place. As filmmakers, we approached this field with a listening posture, mindful of our position to better build a bond of trust with the people we met. Aesthetics here only serve as a shell: the heart of the project lies in the raw words and dignity of those who fight daily for the rights of women and children in Guinea.

Identification as a common thread

To engage the audience, we chose to move away from factual documentary to embrace a narrative driven by empathy. In Aminatou Baldé, a Guinean activist and woman, we found the face and voice of this story. By setting aside her expert persona to become a human and accessible interlocutor, she becomes the bridge between the viewer and the realities on the ground—whether it be the fight against gender-based violence or the improvement of neonatal care through digital tools.
