Art & Culture

2025

Since his rise to prominence in the world of fashion, American artist, photographer and filmmaker Tyler Mitchell has created a vast and beautiful landscape that expands visions of black life. With Wish This Was Real, Mitchell’s exhibition at Photo Elysée reimagines what it means to be young, black and creative in today’s world.

The brief

Photo Elysée asked us to create a video portrait of Tyler Mitchell and his first solo exhibition in Switzerland, Wish This Was Real. Capturing him in the environment of Photo Elysée and the Lausanne arts district, Tyler Mitchell introduces his work and vision, adding depth to and beyond the exhibition. The video is intended to feel timeless, so we allow it to live independently and outside of the exhibition period.

Our approach

Through reflections about his life, artistic practice and broader narratives around black representation, we allow viewers to connect with Tyler Mitchell and Wish This Was Real more deeply, helping them discover a body of work that spans over 10 years. In response to Tyler Mitchell’s multimedia practice, we honor his sensibility by introducing an additional narrative layer—infusing the visual experience with texture, grain, and a bold interplay of mediums. By blending photographs, scans, and diverse video formats, we've created a multi-dimensional story that reflects, contemplates and celebrates Mitchell's work.
