Richard Mosse’s immersive video installation at the Photo Elysée is not only a beautiful work of art and technical genius, it is also a thought-provoking record of a humanitarian and environmental catastrophe. An important message that needs to be seen by the masses to fulfil the artist’s intention of creating positive change. We filmed and produced this artist interview with one thing in mind: get people going to the Museum to experience this exhibition and fully comprehend what is being done to the earth.
Tackling the challenge
When setting up the interview architecture, rather than asking ourselves why people go to an exhibition, we focused on why people don’t - lack of interest, fear of not fitting in or understanding, boredom, unaware of what is being shown - factoring each one into the production plan and script.
Our approach
More than just a Q&A session, we wanted to create a portrait of the artist, down-to-earth and approachable, an everyday guy that creates powerful documentaries that are also works of art. Interspersed with breathtaking and provocative excerpts of the installation, in simple terms, Richard Mosse tells us about the making-of and the reasons behind his biting but beautiful visual commentary, connecting to avid museum-goers and bah-humbug audiences alike. The artist and his work are the draw. To dive deeper into the artwork through the words of the artist, we made a longer version of this interview, published as a podcast on SoundCloud for your listening pleasure.
